Have a Little Butter

from Days of the Sun by Will Gillespie & SALTCOATS

/

about

This is the original demo of "Have a Little Butter" before Will had ever even played it on a guitar. Recorded solo on an antique 4-string tenor banjo, stuck in a low open tuning, borrowed from former SALTCOAT Jennie May Ellis. An intimate but up-tempo Blues tune laid down onto a 4-track tape recorder it's a raw, one-take, live-off-the-floor recording made before anyone else had heard the song. Featuring a line borrowed from Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.

lyrics

Have your cake and eat it too...
Have a couple hours, see what we can do...
Nothing in the cupboard, nothing on the shelf...
Have a little Butter with your bread as well.

I really didn't mean to be arriving late,
But she exploded on me like a jailbreak.
You only get one chance, as far as I can tell...
Have a little butter with your bread as well.

"If Music be the food of Love, play on..."
A man's gotta eat, even when you're gone.
I know I'm not going to get cooking all by myself...
Have a little butter with your bread as well.

Have a little butter
Have a little butter
Have a little butter with your bread as well.
